COMMISSIONS

I take great pride in using top-quality materials to make your pet’s portrait truly special. Some of my favorites include Stabilo CarbOthello pastels (they blend beautifully!), Caran d’Ache, and Faber-Castell Pitt, all on Clairefontaine PastelMat paper. These tools help me achieve lifelike results with care and precision in every portrait.

Below is a detailed step-by-step process for commissioning your own pet portrait.

My pet and wildlife portraits are created on a commission basis for individuals across the United States (and hopefully in other countries around the world).  I specialize in highly detailed, realistic style pastel pencil drawings of all types of animals, from your furry family members, stunning wildlife, and every other beautiful creature in between.

Below is the step-by-step process for commissioning your own pet portrait:

PORTRAIT COMMISSIONS

Choosing the right size for your portrait is the first step. Think about where it will be displayed — a cozy nook, a hallway gallery, or the center of your living room wall. Whether rectangular or square, I can help you select the best shape based on your reference images. The right dimensions can make all the difference in how your portrait feels in the space.

To secure your booking, a high-resolution photo is required and must be approved at the time of booking. (Need help? Check out my handy photo guide below for tips on capturing the best possible image of your pet.)

I will always confirm the details of your commissioned portrait before I begin.

REFERENCE PHOTOS

Next, you’ll need a great photo of your pet — a clear headshot that really shows off their personality. A soft, natural light (like near a window or outside in the shade) works best. Try to get a shot where their eyes are clearly visible — that’s what helps bring the portrait to life.

If you're unsure about your pet photos, I’d be happy to take a look. Just send a few my way, and I can let you know if they’ll work or offer advice for retaking them. Holding a treat near your phone is a great way to capture their attention.

For those who have lost a beloved pet, please know I’ll work with what you have and do my absolute best to honor their memory in your portrait.

I use one main photo to draw from, but if you send me a selection, I can get a sense of the pet’s character, which would be perfect!

To ensure the highest quality, I do need original, unedited images — no screenshots or cropped photos, please. You can refer to the examples below for photo guidance.

BOOKING YOUR PORTRAIT

Once you’ve chosen the size and gathered your favorite reference photos, it’s time to reach out. I typically have a 5–6 month waiting list, so please keep that in mind if you’re hoping to have your portrait completed for a special occasion.

A $75 non-refundable deposit secures your spot — this amount is applied toward the total cost. I’ll send an invoice after we’ve finalized the details. If a monthly payment plan works better for you, just let me know — I’m happy to make that work.

Before I begin, I’ll be in touch to confirm your chosen image and portrait size, and I’ll let you know when your portrait is officially underway.
